WOODRUFF — In front of a homecoming crowd and a TV audience, Woodruff put on a show Friday night.
Quarterback Ryan Perkins threw for four touchdowns (39, 3, 48 and 32 yards) and Shun Tribble rushed for two (32, 34) in a 49-7 victory against Chesnee.
“Perkins did a great job of getting where we needed to get to and Tribble came out running the ball well and that’s what happens when you come out and execute,” Woodruff head coach Brian Lane said.
Chesnee tried its best to keep up on offense. Just as it began to drive down the field, penalties and turnovers prevented any chance for the Eagles to put pressure on Woodruff.
“Every time we had a big play it seems like we had a stupid penalty,” Chesnee head coach Brent Bridges said. “That’s where we’re at with a young football team, but that can’t be an excuse.”
Chesnee was able to get on the board late in the fourth quarter. Alex Painter led the team on an 80-yard drive that was capped by Painter’s 3-yard touchdown run.
Despite an 0-3 start, the Eagles have not given up on the season.
“Our goal is to peak by week six and be the best team we can be,” Bridges said.
Lane said Woodruff, even though its 3-0, also needs to continue to improve.
“Right now we’re trying to get our special teams going and keep them going. If we can continue that, hopefully we can give Chapman a challenge next week,” Lane said.
